Tailored flood risk management: Accounting for socio-economic and cultural differences when designing strategies

Climate change and socio-economic development result in increasing flood risk which challenges management policy making practice. Each situation, however, is different calls for not only understanding the natural context, but also cultural context. Only then Flood Risk Management strategies can be designed that are 1) fit purpose 2) feasible local implementation 3) sustainable into future. consequences accepted some cultures (fatalist), may acceptable other (controlist). This considering normative context order to understand current differences More importantly, design of strategic alternatives future should consider this as well because every society aims same goals proportion, nor equally willing or capable implement maintain sophisticated infrastructure dedicated institutions.
